Our AC is broken. Again. If you recall, this has happened before. I should note that was in 95 degrees today with a humidity level of 65%. Fun!
Back in June, the repairman that came out said that our outside AC unit likely didn't have long to live. Well, I think it has finally kicked the bucket this time. While out back, I can hear it try and crank up, but then the fan never starts spinning. Given the age of the unit (15+ years), I don't see it being cost-effective to try and repair it again. That means we need to start getting price quotes. It also means that the 4 grand we had stashed away for a minor house remodel (converting the two rooms on the lower level into a master bedroom) will have to be used for the AC unit instead.
*sigh*
I am thankful that we do have some money available. We are very fortunate to be in the house we are at our ages, with steady jobs and good salaries. I just hate having my plans ruined by unforeseen circumstances. Ok, so you could argue that this AC replacement was, in fact, foreseen (by the repairman in June!), but we were hoping to deal with this next spring. You know, after tax refunds come in. Maybe we can do the remodel in the spring instead.
*double sigh*
Anyone know the name of a good HVAC company?

This n' That
Well, I'm happy to report that the first two weeks of school have gone off without a hitch. That is to say, except for this habit I've gotten in of going back to bed after the boy goes off to the bus stop. I don't need to be at work before 11:30am, right?
Anyway, I digress. The boy is in the spanish immersion program that his school hosts, which means that half of his day is taught in english with one teacher, then the classes swap and the other half (the math & science parts) is taught in spanish. The two group switch off every month for who starts in the spanish room at the beginning of the day. His verdict after the first couple of days were that this two teachers were "the nicest ever! Even nicer than Mrs. B and Mrs. P from last year!" (That's no light praise - he adored his teachers last year.)
We're trying to get into a solid routine for before and after school, but with the big guy's work schedule (and my little sleeping habit), it's been hard to adjust. We've been good about preparing meals at home, so have feasted on vegetable latkes, spaghetti squash, ensalada capresse, stuffed peppers, homemade pesto, and other tasty treats. Oh, and if the big guy is cooking, eggs ;) But, they're delicious free-range eggs we get as part of our CSA. The boy got a kick of going out to the farm and gathering our own eggs before the vegetable season started, and we got addicted to those lovely orange yolks. I keep taking pics of the meals we prepare, but somehow never get around to actually blogging about the recipes. I'll try to get around to that soon as we still have planter boxes overflowing with Swiss Chard.
On an unrelated note, I managed to score an old used copy of DDR complete with pads for $10 from an email listing I received. I hooked it up tonight and made a total fool of myself. Luckily everyone else had gone to bed, so my shame is safe with me. But hey, I had to make sure I didn't purchase faulty equipment, right?
